I. The Hero's Birth. A childless couple wish for a child, however small he may be; they have a boy the size of a thumb [F535.1.].
II. His Adventures. [F535.1.1] (a) He drives the wagon by sitting in the horse's ear; (b) he lets himself be sold and then runs away; (c) he is carried up the chimney by the steam of food; (d) he teases the tailor's wife; (e1) he helps thieves rob a treasure-house; (e2) he betrays the thieves by his cries; (f) he is swallowed by a cow [F911.3.1], makes an outcry [F913], and is rescued when the cow is slaughtered; (g1) he persuades the fox who has eaten him to go to his father's house and eat chickens, or (g2) the wolf to go to his father's pantry: he then calls for help and is rescued.
