Beschrijving
Rhampsinitus. The theft in the treasury (bank). The head of one of the thieves cut off. The other thief (brother) sought in vain. The lamentation of the relatives betrays the thief, etc. Cf. Type 1525.
I. Theft from the treasury. (a) The king's treasury is robbed by a former architect who has left a stone loose. (b) The theft is detected by means of a straw fire end the smoke escaping through the holes. (c) The thief is caught in a trap. (d) At his request his brother (ven) cuts off his head so that his identity may be concealed.
II. Finding the Thief. (a) In order to identify the thief the body is carried through the streets to see if anyone weeps over it. The son has forewarned the family. (b) Though the body is watched by twenty knights in white end twenty in black, the son dresses half white end half black end steels the body.
III. Ihe Clever Son. (a) To catch the youth the king gives free access to the princess end has her mark the man who sleeps with her with a black sign: the youth marks all the knights end the king himself. (b) A child will hand a knife to the guilty man; he charges a toy with the child end thus deceives the king.
