I. The Cowed Demon. (a) A woman drives off with a broom both her husband and a demon who lives nearby, or the woman frightens a demon in some other way. (b) A man sings so poorly that his relatives force him to sing under a tree in a field and hire a poor man to be his audience. A demon in the tree, tormented by the singing, and pitying the poor man, agrees to help the poor man.
II. The Demon Possesses the Princess [K1955.6]. The demon enters the body of the princess, queen, etc. The man, his confederate, exorcises the demon and is richly rewarded. The demon warns the man to exorcise the demon again.
III. The Demon Frightened. The demon enters another princess, and the man is ordered, on pain of death, to drive out the demon. When he comes to the princess, he tells the demon that (a) his wife (b) the singer is outside [T251.1.1]. The demon leaves.
