The eaten grain and the cock as damages. Cf. Type 170. I. Profitable Exchanges. (a) The hero has only a grain of corn; this is eaten by a cock and he gets the cock as damages [K251.11. (b) Likewise when the hog eats the cock, and (c) the ox eats the hog. II. The Princess Won. (a) He exchanges his ox for an old woman's corpse (see Types 1536, 1537) and makes it appear that the princess murdered her. (b) She marries him in order to avoid scandal [K1383]. III. Denouement. (a) He has a son by her who surpasses him in cunning, or (b) the princess is stolen from him and a dog substituted [K1223.1].
