Ariadne’s Thread (previously Ariadne-thread Wins the Prince). A king promises his son to whatever woman can find her way through the 1000 rooms in his palace. A poor but clever girl succeeds by unwinding a spool of thread [R121.5.].

In Greek mythology Theseus finds his way out of the labyrinth by help of a thread that Ariadne had given to him. Rich documentation since the Middle Ages, e.g. Gesta Romanorum (No. 63).
