Beschrijving
Meleager. A man (knight, captain, woman) is helped by the devil and in return cedes him his soul. When the devil comes to get it at the appointed time, the man asks for a delay until a short candle burns out [E765.1.1, K551.9]. The devil agrees. Thereupon the man blows out the candle (eats up the candle) and is free. Cf. Type 332.

This type has a strong connection to the myth of Meleager in Homer, Iliad (IX,529–599) and can be found in Ovid’s Metamorphoses (VIII,385–414).
