Beschrijving
The Miller, his Son, and the Donkey. (Asinus vulgi.) A miller and his son travel with one donkey (horse). First the son rides and is rebuked by a passer-by for letting his father walk. Then the father rides and is criticized because he makes his son walk. When both ride or both walk, they are still blamed [J1041.2]. As a lesson, the father shows the son that it is difficult (impossible) to please everyone [J1041].
In some variants, at the end the father and son carry the donkey (horse) between them and throw it into the water, or kill it.
